Filter Systems Australia wishes everyone a happy World Water Day!
Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the first World Water Day was observed on March 22, 1993, to raise awareness and inspire the masses to tackle the global water and sanitation crisis.
This year’s theme- “accelerating change’ aims at increasing action, ambition, and innovation to guarantee that every individual has access to safe drinking water, clean bathing options, and adequate options for sanitation. With an attempt to urge government bodies, civic societies, and masses to accelerate progress towards reaching ‘Sustainable Development Goal 6’, this year’s World Water Day will focus on fulfilling the commitments of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that would ensure Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is maintained as the core elements in every sector.
How to Bring about the Change?
Water, an integral component for human health, agriculture, industry, and the ecosystem, is fundamental to maintaining human rights. Access to safe and clean water is a fundamental human right. Despite that, millions of people across the globe lack access to safe and clean water. Filter Systems Australia urge every individual to pledge to work towards ensuring that every individual has access to this basic necessity of life.
Let us accelerate change by implementing basic changes in our daily lives that would conserve water for the future. Simple day-to-day actions like turning off the faucet while brushing our teeth, fixing leaks, and using water-efficient appliances can bring about drastic change. Let us also support organisations and initiatives that focus on providing clean water to the needy. Another important change that we need to implement is to reduce our carbon footprint. Climate change is primarily driven by burning fossil fuels, which also leads to water pollution and water scarcity. Let us reduce our energy consumption, use renewable energy sources, and support policies that promote clean energy, which in turn, will minimize the impacts of climate change on our natural water resources.
To help support the ultimate goal of celebrating this day would be by recognising and valuing the importance of water for our ecosystem. Water as we know sustains life on our planet and provides habitat for innumerable species. It safeguards the health of our forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems. Hence, it is our duty as responsible individuals to ensure that none of our actions impacts the ecosystem negatively and to work towards preserving them for the generations to come. We as a society need to focus on the economic value of water and accelerate our attempt towards creating an equitable and sustainable system that values the real cost of water. Let us focus on adopting sustainable water management practices by promoting rainwater harvesting, implementing conservation measures, and reducing water pollution.
This Word Water Day, let us all, both as individuals and as an organization, increasingly focus on working towards conserving water, ensuring every individual, at every corner of the globe has access to safe and clean water. In the process, let us work towards creating a sustainable and equitable future.
