Stage 1: GAC Inline Carbon Cartridge – replace every 6 months
This 5 micron inline carbon filter acts to protect the stage two membrane. It will remove the vast quantity of any taste odour or chemicals in the water and help to prolong the life of the membrane.
Stage 2: Asprinn 50GPD RO Membrane (FilmTec Material) - replace every 1 – 4 years
Removes 98% of impurities including organic and inorganic, chemicals. The membrane, is the "engine room" of the reverse osmosis filtration system. All the work is done here, so all the filters before the membrane are primarily there to protect the engine. This membrane will produce up to 50GPD (190L/24hr) of clear pure water @ 70psi within the working feed water quality requirements.
Stage 3: GAC Inline Carbon Cartridge – replace every 12 months
This 5 micron inline carbon filter acts as the final polishing stage post RO membrane, This filter will not add any mineral content back into the water.

How to Measure Your Tap Thread Size to Check Compatibility
This system comes with a standard 22mm Female Thread / 24mm Male Thread tap diverter adaptor per the picture below:
However, sometimes consumers run into trouble when buying a benchtop water filter if they have a non-standard-sized tap (i.e. a tap that is very modern but very skinny), and it’s hard to find an adaptor to fit – so it’s definitely best to check before you buy!
To check the size of your tap, screw the aerator off the end of your tap and take a measurement of the outer diameter of the thread (similar to the below example). Please make sure to measure it accurately from the middle of the thread (see example of the red line below).

Please note that Portable RO Systems are not designed for permanent installations, and do not come with the components required to be plumbed in (i.e it won't produce water "on tap"). Portable RO Units are only designed to be connected to water pressure as needed, and then shut off/disconnected when finished. A Portable RO System will typically produce water at a slower rate than normal tap water (i.e. most RO membranes produce water at a rate of 8 litres per hour), and will also produce waste water at a ratio of 1L filtered water to 1-1.5L of wastewater. For this reason, you will need to make water as required, and store your filtered water in a vessel or container (such as the below 23L Water Container from Kmart). Hot tip: Save yourself the headache of a flooded kitchen by sitting your water container vessel in your sink whilst you fill it up (and set an alarm - 1 hour for every 8L of water)! That way, if you forget about it and the jug overflows - at least the overflow goes down the drain instead of you having to mop it all up off the bench and floor!

For Protection Against Bacteria/Fungi/Yeast
Bacteria (such as E.Coli) can colonize in the stagnant water and result in harmful illnesses when consumed. For sanitation against common water-borne bacteria/viruses in rainwater and potable bore water*, we, therefore, recommend dosing your tank with a product such as Hydrosil Ultra 7.5% Water Sanitiser to ensure protection against microbiological contamination/biofouling in your pipework and/or filter system.
HydroSil is a food-grade silver-activated, hydrogen-peroxide based water sanitiser, which acts to oxidise bacteria, yeast, fungi & viruses, without leaving any dangerous residues behind. HydroSil sanitizes and protects your tanks and water storage devices, making rainwater and potable bore water safe and suitable for human consumption. HydroSil is not a chlorine-based chemical like most sterilisers on the market today. It is non-toxic, and safe to use around your home and family.
Dosage Rate: HydroSil should be dosed at a rate of 200mL per 1000L of water. To scale down to tank size, you will require 20mL per 100L.

About Rain Water
Australia is the world’s driest inhabited continent, and an astonishing 10% of Aussies don’t have access to a mains water supply, so it’s no wonder why rainwater and bore storage tanks are so popular in rural areas to save water during drought and for household use all year round in cooking, cleaning, gardening, bathing and sometimes even drinking. However, whilst many people enjoy the sweet taste of rain and spring water, and some even swear by the ‘raw water’ trend (which proponents (sometimes falsely) believe has more minerals and fewer contaminants than regular chlorinated town water), we cannot stress enough that drinking untreated water is a very bad idea!
Scarily, in Australia, the general public perception is that rainwater is pure, clean, and safe to drink, but according to the Australian Environmental Health committee’s Guidance of the Use of Rainwater tanks, the fact is that the microbial quality of tank-collected rainwater is typically worse than regular urban tap water, and not to mention, the chemical quality of rainwater can be negatively impacted for those living near heavy industry or in areas with heavy traffic emissions. For example, rainwater samples in Port Pirie, South Australia, (which has one of the world’s largest lead smelters), have been found to contain levels of lead that exceed Australian Drinking Water Guidelines by up to ten times! Even bushfire can contaminate rainwater! And that’s not to mention the microbiologically sickening soup of bacteria, viruses parasites that inevitably make their way into your tank from disease-spreading insects such as mosquitoes, the excrement and decaying carcasses of frogs, snakes, rodents, and possums that commonly live in and around tanks, and the droppings from bats and birds flying overhead! Also consider that bacteria tend to proliferate in moist and warm environments, meaning that warmer weather, in particular, has the tendency to turn your tank into a putrified bacterial breeding ground. Thus, whilst rainwater may smell odourless, taste great, and look clean and clear to the naked eye, with the human senses alone, you simply cannot tell what potentially harmful microscopic contaminants could be lurking in your tank water (even after filtering the water with carbon) – and you certainly don’t want to be drinking it!

About Bore Water
Bore water will always require filtration, as whilst you would think it is “naturally purified” to some extent as the water seeps through the aquifer via various layers of bedrock, this water is highly susceptible to contamination by bacteria, viruses, parasites (see: Brain-Eating Parasites), sewerage (think human excrement, cleaning and bathing products), chemicals, fertilisers, pesticides, minerals, heavy metals (such as lead, zinc, chromium, copper, cadmium, arsenic and nickel), and sometimes even radioactive elements (such as uranium) from both natural sources and human activity. As with rainwater treatment, the most cost-effective solution is typically to use 5 Micron Carbon Filtration in combination with UV Sterilisation to ensure 99.9% eradication of all parasites, bacteria, viruses. However, this system is not always a "total fix", as bore water chemistry is incredibly complex, and sometimes may not even be treatable. Yet another common misconception we often encounter is that carbon can filter out anything and everything – but unfortunately, carbon doesn’t kill bacteria or remove minerals, salts and other such dissolved inorganic substances!
We STRONGLY recommend that you get your bore water tested to determine if there are any underlying issues in the water chemistry of your bore, before you make any purchases or try to filter it. Due to the nature of the products we sell, a strict return policy is in place. We work with food grade certified materials that must be un-opened and un-used as to be able to be re-sold.
You may receive a refund or credit of equal amount, less the restocking fee if applicable and any other deductions that are relevant.
- Wrongly purchased items may be returned for a merchandise credit, this applies for but not limited to: Wrong size, wrong system etc.
- 30 Day return Policy: Returns will not be accepted without prior approval or after 30 days of invoice date.
- All returns will incur a 17.5% restocking fee or cost to send the item to you whichever greater. FSA may use discretion to determine the restocking fee.
- Any damages (minor, that can be repaired) will incur a fee which will be deducted from the total refund which will be equal to the cost of the replacement
parts (List Price) and labour charge (if applicable) to repair the system(s). This will be separate to the restocking fee. - Any damage considered to be major and not feasible for repair may be refused and the return request will be void. The customer will be responsible for the return freight or disposal of the damaged unit.
- Return shipping is to be paid by the buyer to the address provided. It is recommended that the customer applies transit warranty to the return freight in case of damage.
- Any damages to the system that were not reported to FSA within 48 business hours of receipted delivery are not covered under our transit warranty.
- Should the item appear faulty or doesn’t work how described, the unit/item must be returned for testing (if requested), the return postage paid by the buyer. If the unit/item is deemed to be faulty, compensation will be provided for the postage cost (Proof of cost required). What makes this a Portable Reverse Osmosis Water Filter?
The most common form of Reverse Osmosis Water Filters is an Undersink Style, where the system is physically “Plumbed-In” under the sink in a permanent way. Our Portable RO Water Filters are designed to work off your kitchen tap using a diverter valve. This gives you the ability to take the system everywhere you go and can be easily and quickly installed on most standard kitchen taps.
How will I know if the system will connect to My Kitchen Tap?
Commonly, all kitchen taps use the same or similar type connections where the aerator goes (the mesh fitting that aerates the water when it comes out). There are some taps on the market that are a slim design and have small threads which unfortunately are not compatible. If your tap (thread where the aerator is) measures 22-24mm in diameter it will fit the standard diverter valve.
What if the system does NOT fit my Kitchen Tap?
There are alternatives you can use if this is the case. We have a range of fittings that suit different applications. You can use this system in the laundry on the ¾” washing machine inlet by using the Laundry Block Adaptor, this allows you to use your washing machine, and also the filter at the same time, diverting some of the water through the filter system. We also have a brass fitting that attaches to all standard ¾” Garden/Outdoor taps.
Is there a downside to using a portable system over the more common Undersink Variety of Reverse Osmosis Water Filters?
The only downside you will face is the flow rate or On Demand Capacity of the system. Reverse osmosis produces water at a rate of approx. 8-10L per Hour, which equates to a slow dribble of water. This is because the Reverse Osmosis Membrane has a micron rating of 0.0001 Microns, small enough to strip out all of the impurities in the water, including Fluoride. This is why the Undersink models contain a storage tank so you can collect water straight away from the tap on the sink. The Portable systems can be used to fill drinking water containers or dispensers as required.
Can I convert a Portable Reverse Osmosis Water Filter into an Undersink Filter?
Technically, yes. It is possible to do so however, there are several components that go into the Undersink models to convert it into a Plumbed in Automatic System. By the time you have purchased all of the necessary equipment, you will find it is cheaper to buy a brand new Undersink RO system.
How often do I need to change the filters?
As a general rule with Portable RO systems, the first filter (Or pre-Filter) should be replaced strictly every 6 months. This is highly recommended to help prolong the life of the more expensive and important Reverse Osmosis Membrane. If a pre filter is left on for too long, as the efficiency of chemical reduction is reduced, it may begin to let through residual traces of Chlorine through to the membrane. The Reverse Osmosis membrane is susceptible to damage from any number of chemicals that it comes into contact with, thus would begin to deteriorate more rapidly, potentially causing you to replace your membrane prematurely.
Will Reverse Osmosis remove 100% of Fluoride?
Reverse Osmosis filters can vary anywhere between 95% - 98% of effective removal of Fluoride. So technically speaking, Reverse Osmosis alone will not remove 100% of Fluoride from the water. In saying this, we can put this into perspective. The rough amount of Fluoride in municipal water can equate to 1L in an Olympic Sized Swimming Pool. If you then remove 98% of this, it then becomes 20mL per Olympic swimming pool. If you were to get the finished water analysed professionally by a NATA approved Laboratory, their instruments would not even be able to detect fluoride. So technically speaking, it won’t remove 100%, but the residual left over is beyond negligible. If, however, you want fluoride completely 100% removed, you can simply add a De-Ionising Resin Filter to the system which would render the water 100% Pure.
